A Picture Perfect Tail- Story of a Cat
67The scenery around here is beautiful but not exactly one that will blow people's mind away, thought Carl, taking pictures of the towering mountains dotted with trees.
'Here's hoping I find something better on the way, maybe a celebrity out for a hike,' he said to himself, laughing loudly at his own joke.
He made his way back to his Porsche, his camera hanging around his neck. Out of the bushes, something that had watched him ever since he stopped to have a look at the scenery, came out and stood in front of him.
It was a cat.
'What in the world!' he said, surprised. He tried to shoo it away so he could get in the car. But the cat wouldn't budge. Animals didn't behave like that. These thoughts flashed through Carl's brain, but before he could ponder any longer, the cat let out a screech and jumped towards him.
The car keys dropped from his hand as he jumped back, gasping. The cat promptly picked them up and dashed into the woods at the edge of the road. After a few seconds, Carl realized what had happened and run after the fleeing thief, yelling all the way.
'Give me my keys!'
'Come back here, you rascal!'
His car, his precious shade of red! Oh, that cat is one dead piece of meat, he thought, running with all his might, crushing leaves and twigs that were unlucky enough to come under his large feet.He caught sight of the cat, turning a corner. His car, his precious shade of red!
"I am gonna get you, you beast!' he screamed.
And that's when he saw it.
He slowed down.
His eyes quickly scanned it, taking in all the oldness and the mystery surrounding it.
Carl went closer to have a good look at what he thought was the ruined, yet most amazing building he had ever seen. He had forgotten why he was here until he heard a purr. Looking up at him was the cat who had dropped the keys near Carl's feet. He bent to pick it up but the cat stayed right beside him. He slowly stroked it, no longer angry.
'You brought me here on purpose, didn't you?' He asked, with a huge grin. The cat seemed to enjoy this, because it closed its eyes and rubbed its small head against his hand. This must be a wild cat, he figured, since there were no dwellings on this mountains except for this house. Carl got up, his camera now in his hands.
'Lets get to work, shall we?' The cat's ears pricked up at once and it run ahead, acting like a tour guide. With a chuckle, Carl followed. All around the building they went, taking pictures of every angle.
Before long, it was dark. 'Better get going' he remarked, taking one last, long look at what he planned to enter in a photo exhibition.
'Wanna come?' he asked the cat.
It purred in delight. 'Then lets go!' Carl exclaimed.
Before long they were back to where they first met. The sun was on its journey back to the west, leaving a rich splash of color behind.
'Now this is picture perfect.'
The cat's head was sticking out the car's backseat window. It looked up to the sky where three birds were perching on the electric lines.
'No, that's not dinner, you will have fish and milk when we get home,' Carl teased, as it noticed where the cat was looking.
The journey back felt better than all the ones he had been on alone, Carl smirked, catching a glimpse of the cat licking its paws in the rear-view mirror before driving off into the still darkness.
